Cross Flow Heat Exchanger Calculation

Two months ago I faced a design problem regarding a heat exchanger. I had to find how many times a series of pipes should be passed through an industrial chimney in order to heat the water (inside the pipes) from 135 °C to 150 °C. I solved the problem by developing this workbook, which is actually an application of NTU method.

How to use it

Just fill the necessary values in green cells and press the Calculate NTU button. If you press the Sample Values button the green cells will be filled with some predetermined values. Since this workbook was developed for a specific heat exchanger, you can’t change any parameter in the calculation. However, it might help you understand the NTU method.
Download it from here

This workbook can be opened only in Office 2007 and 2010.
